Farthing Cottage.
Originally constructed in the late 1800’s it is believed
to have stabled the Dunster Polo Ponies at the start of its
Exmoor life. Over the following 100 years it has changed use
a few times until at the turn of this century it was converted
into a beautiful two bedroom Exmoor cottage nestling on the
edge of Exmoor National Park in Minehead.
 |
|
| The tarmac area to the front of
the cottage is approached through the large wrought
iron gates. This provides either guaranteed and
secure parking or a garden area in which to relax
on the garden furniture and muster up a mouth
watering BBQ whilst the children play. |
|
|
|

|
 |
|
Alternative parking can be found in the road outside. To the
side of the cottage is a further small cottage garden area, again
secure with railings around and wrought iron gate at the entrance.
The Accommodation is arranged:
Through the front door you are into the lobby area with a separate
WC and stairs rising to the first floor. To the left is a kitchen/diner
fully equipped with w/mach; t/dryer; f/freezer; gas cooker; microwave;
table and four chairs. The fitted kitchen houses
everything you would need and expect to find in a well equipped
kitchen and being double aspect is very light and airy. To view

The lounge is located
to right of the hall and is presented in calming neutral
colours to aid relaxation. Again a double aspect room
with windows to front and rear letting in lots of natural
light. For entertainment there is a widescreen TV, video
player, DVD player and digital freeview and radio/cd player. To add character
there is a small replica log burner in the corner of
the room.
There are two very comfortable sofa’s together
with side tables. We have provided a small library of
books, CD's, DVDS and videos for your use together with a
selection of board games and a small box of toys for
the children. |
|
|
 |
Upstairs the master bedroom has exposed beams
as does the landing and stairwell. A double bed together with
fitted wardrobes, window seat and complimentary bedroom furniture
make a delightful room to take rest. The second bedroom is a twin
bedded room with wonderful views out to Bratton and North Hill.
 |
|
The shower room is spacious with a velux
window giving additional light and air. Completely refurbished in January 2010 to provide an extended shower cubicle with enhanced power shower. WC, pedestal handbasin and full ceramic tiling throughout.
On the landing there is a walk-in linen cupboard which
houses the gas central heating boiler and provides additional
storage.
All bed linen and towels are provided and in the kitchen
there will be a welcome basket offering tea, coffee,
milk, biscuits etc to revive you from your journey.
The cottage is let on a self catering basis, fully inclusive
with no extra charges made for gas or electricity. |
|
The central location of the cottage provides that you do not
have to use your car at all in order to explore the seaside town
of Minehead. It’s a very short walk to
the centre of town with a vast variety of shops, some being the
large familiar brands such as Boots, WH Smith, Co-op including
the major banks and building societies. There are also lots of
local trades and shops providing a wonderful choice for your retail
therapy. A ten minute walk away is the beautiful seaside bay and
sandy beach of Minehead with the Esplanade, arcades and seaside
shops. Just before you reach the beach is the West Somerset
Railway where you can enjoy daily trips on the old steam
locomotives. The steam train enthusiasts organise many themed
weekends and galas and if you are a keen or budding fanatic of
the steam train locomotives then a visit to the railway station
will not disappoint.
 |
|
Minehead is a very
popular seaside resort and boasts a beautifully kept
sandy beach extending the full length of the Minehead
Bay and through to Dunster beach and Blue Anchor Bay
beyond.
Further along the sea front you will find Quay Street
and the original old fishermen’s cottages some
of which have been standing in excess of 400 years.
The old harbour is worth a visit as
is the RNLI Lifeboat Station which sits just behind
the harbour. The seafront comes to an end for vehicles
just beyond the harbour but pedestrians can follow the
tracks and paths for the most wonderful walks along
the coast line. |
|
Go to top of North Hill to see the Exmoor ponies
wandering the moors in their natural habit. Take in the spectacular
views of the Bristol Channel and the far reaching coastline of
Wales. The beautiful lilac heather and yellow gorse bushes adorn
the moorland providing the most picturesque scenery.
Visit St Michaels Church on North Hill.
Walk to it up through Church Steps passing all the old
and original thatched cottages that stand in the older
part of the town.
The nearby villages of Dunster and
Porlock are well worth a visit with
many old Exmoor Cottages, Churches, quaint shops, ale
houses and not least Dunster Castle. A magnificent building
standing very proudly at top of the town. A beautiful
National Trust property which is a must to visit at
sometime during your holiday.
Just outside Minehead is the small hamlet of Selworthy
famous for its Exmoor Thatched cottages – a
delight to see. |
|
|
Porlock is another pretty little Exmoor
village with countless cottages lining the high street.
A variety of local shops and restaurants to cater for all
your needs. You can also take the Landrover Discovery Safaris
and see parts of Exmoor that perhaps you would not otherwise
be aware of. |
The list is endless and within the cottage we have provided
extensive information on the wonderful places you can visit and
the numerous walks that you can take exploring Exmoor
to the full. For the equestrians there are a few local stables
from which you can arrange hacks across Exmoor and ride along
some wonderful tracks with stunning scenery. There is also a very
good professional mountain bike shop just a 10
minute walk from the cottage who will hire out the most up to
date mountain bikes on a daily/weekly basis to enable you to explore
Exmoor in yet another way. The local golf club offers
a challenging links course running parallel with the sea and at
the harbour are several charter fishing boats
who will be happy to take you out to catch your supper, rods and
bait supplied.
